Local community organisations from Alberton and other parts of the province met to discuss ways to manage social ills.

Local community organisations from Alberton and other parts of Gauteng met to discuss ways to manage social ills, such as caring for the homeless, substance abusers and other vulnerable groups.

Represented at the February 19 meeting were organisations like LOTS#, Ligstad Church, AMCC, Doxa Deo, Beleef Gemeente, Amcare Social Workers, Tshepo Community Development Initiative (CDI), and others who gathered at the Alberton Methodist Church.

A lberton North-based Ligstad was also present at the HELP Forum meeting in Alberton.

The meeting was held under the HELP (Helping the Less Privileged) Forum. These organisations also met to discuss how best to work collaboratively and how to foster a culture of co-operation between themselves.

Part of the speakers’ panel was Alet Geldenhuis from North Cliff-based Tshepo Community Development Initiative (CDI), and managing director of LOTS#, Eric McKechnie. Geldenhuis and McKechnie did individual presentations on what has worked for their organisations, challenges they come across and possible solutions.

A follow up meeting will be held on Tuesday 18 March, 18h30 at the NG Kerk Alberton-Suid in Phantom street, opposite Alberton High School, for those wishing to make a difference.
